AT-TABOY! NOW BRING ON BLUES

- Luton Town Sheffield Weds BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have an FA Cup glamour tie at Chelsea, as well as Steve Bruce’s arrival, to look forward to after edging out Luton.

Atdhe Nuhiu’s winner earned Wednesday the prize of a fourthround trip to Stamford Bridge on January 27, just a few days before Bruce’s reign begins.

Beating Luton at Kenilworth Road is no mean feat as Hatters, who gave Wednesday a thorough examination, hadn’t lost here since March 2018.

Having failed to extend that run, Luton’s attention now turns to a couple of other big dates in their diary this month – council meetings about their plans to build a 17,500-capacity stadium after 113 years at their famous home.

Luton were again led by interim boss and club legend Mick Harford (below) and showed that ex-boss Nathan Jones’ departure for Stoke appears to have done little to derail them.

They continued to look a slick, well-drilled and confident outfit against their Championship visitors and caused a string of scares, not least when Tom Lees was almost pressured into scoring a comedy own goal with a blind back-pass.

Elliot Lee also blazed over and Jack Stacey, James Collins and James Justin all tested Owls keeper Cameron Dawson.

Steven Fletcher diverted Barry Bannan’s volley onto the post from Wednesday’s best first-half chance.

Owls went ahead early in the second half when Nuhiu found the top corner. And Wednesday just about survived League One promotion-chasers Luton’s onslaught after Dawson produced three more vital saves, the post kept out Collins’ header, and Nuhiu’s late goalline clearance frustrated Matty Pearson.
