Any bids on our next plot folks?
GAA club auctions graveyard sites during fundraiser event
A GRAVEYARD plot for two and a golden heifer are among bizarre lots to be auctioned in a GAA club fundraiser.
Corduff Gaels is hosting the black tie event tomorrow night to help pay off debts from an upgrade of facilities.
The highlight will be the bidding for the double cemetery plot in which the winning bidder will be able to choose between the two parish graveyards.
Corduff chairman Seamus Mcenaney said: “It was brought up at a club meeting a fortnight ago that we needed something unique to the club.
“For us, there is nothing more unique than a plot in our own graveyard when that time comes. We went to the local priest and he gave us permission to sell it.
COMMUNITY
“We’re a very small community of two churches and two graveyards. We’ve VIP tickets to the All Ireland football final and hurling final.”
Other items at the Co Monaghan club’s gala ball include a European break for two and tickets to Liverpool and Manchester United home games this season. Mr Mcenaney added: “We built a state-of-the-art facility in 2003 and we’re celebrating 50 years in existence, we were formed in 1968.
“This is a celebration of our 50th anniversary and it’s our final fundraiser to completely clear the debt. We’re 100% convinced we’re going to be debt-free when the auction is over.”
The black tie night will take place at the Nuremore hotel in Carrickmacross and special guests include Tyrone legend Peter Canavan and Monaghan star Conor Mcmanus.
