ARDS v COLERAINE IT’S GOOD TO TALK..

As Mcaree plans another chat with Shiels over the chance of Coleraine move

- BY DARREN FULLERTON

COLERAINE boss Rodney Mcaree is planning further talks with Dean Shiels over the weekend to determined where the former Northern Ireland striker’s future lies.

Shiels, recently released by Derry City, is on the radar of several other clubs including Glenavon who lie four points above the Bannmen in the table.

The 33-year-old, who won 14 caps, began his career as a forward but currently operates in central midfield.

Ahead of tonight’s league trip to Ards, Mcaree said: “I have had a conversation with Dean and I’ll hopefully have another chat with him in the coming days.

“If it was viable, it is certainly something that would interest us because he is a very fit, experienced and talented footballer.

“But I’m sure Dean has other options and I suspect he has spoken to one or two other clubs. We’ll see what we can do.”

Teenager Dylan

Davidson, recruited from Glentoran on a two and a half year deal, is the latest new face to be added to the Coleraine squad.

He joins Cormac Burke, Jamie Glackin, Derry City midfielder Ben Doherty, who spent the early part of the season on loan at Glenavon, and defender Mark Edgar.

“I’m pleased to get Dylan on board – he’s only 19 and is a gifted player,” said Mcaree. “If we get a smile on his face and get him playing football again, he will be a good signing.

“I’m delighted with the new arrivals and the bonus is Dylan, alongside Jamie Glackin, Ben Doherty and Cormac Burke are all very versatile.

“They can play in different positions, they’re full of energy, mobile and they’re also young and eager to progress their careers.”

Mcaree, preparing for life without winger Darren Mccauley who is being strongly linked with a move to Derry City, is hoping to build momentum at Ards this evening.

After enduring a largely frustrating December, Coleraine are unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions, taking 11 points from 15 in their last five league outings.

While Ards are rooted to the foot of the table, Mcaree warned: “We drew 0-0 there earlier in the season, so we know how tight it can be down

there.”
