Blue Brazil fuming at ‘shambles’
FURIOUS Cowdenbeath chairman Donald Findlay branded the last-minute decision to call-off their money-spinning Scottish Cup clash with Rangers as a shambles!
The Blue Brazil chief was in no doubt the club’s park was playable and also alleged the Rangers kit man, Jimmy Bell, had been a major factor in the controversial cancellation.
Findlay was left fuming after local referee Scott Miller – on the instruction of the Scottish Football association due to plunging temperatures – inspected the Central Park pitch and took the decision to postpone the televised match, where Jermaine Defoe was set to make his debut, just three hours before kick-off.
Findlay said: “A referee was summoned but apparently the driving force behind the decision appears to be the Rangers kitman, which, to me, seems a bit odd!
“I don’t know all the facts but that is the story that is kicking about.
“The referee looked at the pitch and has said there are areas that are unacceptable but I have to say I don’t agree.
“I certainly don’t see any difficulty and they game should have been played but it has been killed off.” The call-off will now come at a cost for Cowdenbeath in terms of lost hospitality and catering. Findlay admitted it is a huge blow to the League Two outfit although it appears that Premier Sports will show the rescheduled fixture.
“I don’t want to think about the financial implications,” the former Rangers director insisted. “It’s a word that you don’t want to print but it is a shambles.” “
