Sherlock and Dubs part ways
JASON SHERLOCK has left the Dublin Gaelic football camp – while Diarmuid Connolly looks set for a sensational return.
Sherlock was brought on board as a forwards coach ahead of the 2015 campaign as the
Blues started their four-in-a-row All-ireland run but will not be part of the Drive for Five.
An All-ireland winner as a player in 1995 alongside manager Jim Gavin, Sherlock has been notably absent from the sideline so far this year, with Paul Clarke acting as the team’s runner in his place.
It is believed that relations had become strained between Gavin and Sherlock with ‘Jayo’, a documentary on Sherlock’s life and career which aired on RTE over Christmas, thought to be the tipping point that led to the parting of ways.
Clarke, another from the 1995 side, was added to the coaching team 12 months ago but has enjoyed a more prominent role in the set-up since Sherlock’s departure.
Meanwhile, it is believed Connolly has resumed training with his club St Vincent’s and has been doing one-to-one sessions with Bryan Cullen, Dublin GAA’S high performance manager and strength and conditioning coach to the senior team.
The 31-year-old hasn’t featured for Dublin since the early stages of last year’s League but the link-up with Cullen suggests he will be phased back in ahead of the summer.
