ULSTER IS ALL HEART WITH KIDNEY DONORS
AN Ulster hospital has the highest number of “living” kidney donors per head of population in the world, a TV show will reveal tonight.
The number of people willing to give up one of their organs is highlighted in True North’s Life On The List documentary which charts the work of the City Hospital’s renal unit.
Since opening in 1959, the Belfast facility has performed nearly 2,500 kidney transplants. Surgeon Tim Brown said: “We want to make sure everyone is aware and they make their loved ones aware and encourage them to donate organs, not only after death but they can become living donors too. The documentary is a real tribute to our patients who are an inspiring bunch and it is great to see the human side, the aftermath of the surgery, when they are at home recovering.”
Life On The List is on BBC One tonight at 10.40pm.
