EU chief says union deal is way forward

-

THERESA May was under pressure yesterday to shift Brexit plans to a permanent EU customs union.

The Prime Minister has fiercely resisted the proposal raised by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to break the Brexit deadlock.

EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier has urged her to endorse the plan.

“I found Corbyn’s letter interesting in tone and in content. Something has to give on the British side,” he said before meeting Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay.

Mrs May has ruled out accepting the plan, which some top ministers have warned would split the Tory party. She will update MPS on negotiations today.
