Man charged over ‘rape’ at Spanish hotel

LEGAL history was made yesterday as a man was charged with raping a woman in Spain.

Michael Joseph Cregan, 44, from Ferguson Street in Derry, appeared at a preliminary enquiry at the city’s magistrates court regarding an alleged incident on August 10, 2014.

It reportedly happened in the Hotel Los Alamos in Torremolinos.

District Judge Barney Mcelholm was told it was the first time a prosecution of this type had ever come before Ulster courts under the amended legislation.

Cregan was returned for trial to Derry Crown Court sitting on March 12.
