SUPER MAC MAKES IT A DOUBLE

Two-goal Sean helps North End make a winning comeback to see off Oxford in cup clash

- BY HARRY ALLEN

YOUTH football has been washed out and frozen off during the last two weeks but it was back to normal on Saturday with cup ties finally being decided.

Sean Mcdermott stole the show with a double strike as North End Youth came from behind to beat Oxford Sunnyside Youth 3-1 in the first round of the Lisburn Junior Invitational League under-13 Division One Cup.

With the wind behind them and the advantage of the hill at Barbour Playing Fields, Sunnyside took the lead at a corner-kick when Liam Carroll got the vital touch.

James Mcconville had earlier hit the crossbar from a free-kick.

It was all change after the break when Mcdermott grabbed the two vital goals.

Ten minutes into the second half North End won a penalty which was cooly dispatched by Euan Pirie.

Mcdermott gave North End the lead at a corner-kick, finding the net with a left foot shot in a crowded goalmouth.

He followed up by making it 3-1, collecting the ball in the area and placing it in the corner of the net.

Afterwards, North End coach Peter Kennedy said the boys were delighted to gain revenge for a previous penalty shoot-out defeat by the same opponents.

Sunnyside had won the Shield in December, beating North End on penalties, while they have a win against each other in the league where they are locked together around mid-table.

The Sunnyside coach said North End deserved the win and, after naming Tiarnan Mcdonald as outstanding in midfield, he also said they enjoyed their games with North End.
