‘Threat’ to son of stab victim Ogle
‘Outrage’ over sinister warning to family of loyalist killed by mob
THE son of a man knifed to death in a brutal street attack has allegedly been threatened.
Ian Ogle, 45, was stabbed 11 times and suffered a fractured skull in the assault near his East Belfast home last month.
A social media site set up in his memory claimed a number of new warnings have been made.
Yesterday, a post read: “Last night we hear of fresh threats being made in East Belfast. A fella threatened a girl last night because she is friends of the Ogle family.
“This morning, he has made more threats to the girl’s brother, he has told him to tell his friend ‘Ryan Ogle’ he was going to gut him like a fish, and him also.
“He has threatened the fella’s wife and sister again this morning, in broad daylight while waving a knife in the middle of the street.
“I call on this community, are we prepared to let these thugs destroy our community? Enough is enough!!”
A man has been held in East Belfast and is helping police with inquiries.
PUP councillor John Kyle blasted the threats and told anyone with information to contact police.
He added: “I condemn it absolutely and without reservation.
REPREHENSIBLE
“Making threats against anyone is worrying but to make them against the Ogle family is particularly outrageous and reprehensible.
“It is completely beyond the pale and I think the whole community sees it as a disgrace.”
The PSNI said it does not discuss the security of individuals and no inference should be drawn from this.
It added: “However, if we receive information that a person’s life may be at risk we will inform them accordingly.
“We never ignore anything which may put an individual at risk.”
Police have made a number of arrests over the fatal attack on the loyalist near Cluan Place on January 27.
Jonathan Brown, 33, from Mcarthur Court in East Belfast, has been charged with murder but denies any involvement in the killing.
He was remanded in custody and will appear again in court via video link on March 8.
Anyone with information about the threats can contact police on 101.
