Feeney: It is win or bust lads!

- BY DARREN FULLERTON

NEW boss Warren Feeney accepts Ards can’t afford to fall further behind Newry City in the fight to avoid the dreaded drop.

Ards lie three points below Newry, who also have a game in hand, heading into today’s bottom of the table clash at Bangor Fuels Arena.

Feeney was appointed on an short term basis until the end of the season on Tuesday following last week’s departure of Colin Nixon.

And the former Northern Ireland striker knows he has to start picking up points quickly with only nine games remaining.

Ards head into today’s game on the back of seven straight defeats in all competitions and a run of just one win in their last 20 outings.

“It’s a massive game and to be honest it’s probably a must not lose for us,” said Feeney.

“The reality is, we can’t afford to get beat by Newry. We have won three games in the league all season, so it’s important we start picking up positive results and points.

“I’ve given the boys a points tally I’d like to see us hit by the end of the season and we know we’ve got to pick up points in those four remaining games before the split.”

Elsewhere, fifth-placed Coleraine host Glentoran who are looking to bounce back from Monday night’s late 2-1 defeat to Glenavon.

Institute host in-form Dungannon Swifts who have won seven of their last nine games, while Cliftonville travel to Warrenpoint Town.

FIXTURES: Ards v Newry City; Coleraine v Glentoran; Institute v Dungannon Swifts; Linfield v Ballymena United; Warrenpoint Town v Cliftonville.
