Chuck Kepa in the reserves.. then flog him! COLLYMORE

-

KEPA ARRIZABALAGA’S refusal to be substituted in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final was the most unprofessional act I have seen on a football field.

It was the worst loss of a head by a player since Eric Cantona launched himself into the Selhurst Park terraces 24 years ago.

Arrizabalaga (right, down and out during the penalty shoot-out) should never be allowed to play for Chelsea again, regardless of the fact they lavished £70million-plus on him only last August.

He should be made to play in the reserves for the rest of the season and told, ‘Right, **** you, off you pop’, by the club and boss Maurizio Sarri when the transfer window reopens.

It was a logical move from

Sarri to send on Willy Caballero in Arrizabalaga’s place.

So for him to refuse to leave the field showed a lack of respect to his manager and his fellow keeper, and it was the crystallisation of everything I have been saying about this group of Chelsea players for some time.

If that had been a Wimbledon player in the 1988 FA Cup Final he’d have been lucky to leave Wembley with his front teeth. But I doubt anyone said anything in that Chelsea dressing room afterwards. They’d have sat skulking and letting Sarri carry the can.

There are no leaders among them, not even the captain, Cesar Azpilicueta, supported his manager by telling Arrizabalaga to get off.

David Luiz did say something, although we don’t know what, but what we should have seen was several of them ordering him away, saying, ‘Get yourself off and when you’ve calmed down give your head a wobble’.

It was one of the biggest disgraces I’ve seen on the pitch and the fact a 24-year-old had the cojones to do it was symptomatic of what has gone on at Stamford Bridge for the last decade.

They have hired and fired managers on the back of the mood in the dressing room, and have actively encouraged the players to have their own heads and responsibility.

That’s great when you’re winning.

But they lost and Manchester City will probably overtake them in the next two or three years in terms of major trophies won.

There now needs to be a clear-out at Chelsea to get rid of the cancerous growth that is in the dressing room – and Sarri should be allowed to do that.

He probably won’t be given the time, but if you were Zinedine Zidane or anyone else, and you were asked if you fancied the job, you’d be thinking long and hard about the potential humiliation this dressing room could bestow on you.

I’d have been embarrassed if I was a Chelsea fan walking away from Wembley on Sunday.

And when you compare them with another money club in City, it just goes to show the difference when you fill the right positions at the club with the right professional people... and when you don’t.

If Chelsea sack Sarri now they will deserve everything they get in the next five or six years.
