JOHN Scrollen and Dorothy Parr have had a change of luck after entering quizzes and competitions for decades without winning a penny.

The delighted Daily Mirror readers scooped £500 each in our new Day2day Puzzle – and are celebrating on getaways.

John, 72, used his winnings as spending money to make a break he had booked in Benidorm extra-special and Dorothy, 76, will cruise the Norwegian fjords.

John, of Seaham, County Durham, said: “For over 50 years I’ve been doing puzzles and quizzes, I’d do all the magazine ones every week – and nothing. I’d definitely recommend others to give it a punt.

“I’m actually on my holidays right now, I had a holiday to Benidorm booked so I put the £500 towards some euros.

“I’m out here with some of my friends, I feel like I’ve had a great run of luck lately. And I’ll probably have some left over so that will go towards my next holiday. I was so chuffed to get the call.”

Former miner John, a father of four who also has 11 grandchildren, jokes that he will not be sharing his newfound wealth just yet. He said: “I think I’ll let them wait until I pop my clogs, they can fight it out for whatever I’ve got left in my bank account!”

Dorothy, originally from Manchester but now living in Ipswich, scooped her £500 prize in February. She and husband of 55 years Norman have put it towards a luxury cruise in the spring.

She said: “We are really into cruising and wanted to go see the fjords. So when we won, I couldn’t believe it.

“Our three daughters are very jealous but we are treating ourselves!”

Today’s questions are on the left of this page – so as John urges, why not have a punt?
