Beaten and stabbed to death in ‘revenge act’

Irishman murdered in Malaysia

- BY NIALL O’CONNOR

AN Irishman found battered and stabbed to death in Malaysia was killed in an “act of revenge”.

Brian Patrick O’reilly was beaten with pots and pans and knifed, while shoestring was used to tie his body and his legs were bound with cloth.

A sinister note was found near the victim which read: “I respected the police and still do but justice sometimes has to be gained. I hate you mafia killing scamers, I love my girl.”

It was written on a torn page from the popular self-help book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F***.

A source revealed the man was identified through passports found at the murder scene. The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the incident.

The insider added: “It appears to be an act of revenge.”

George Town police chief Che Zaimani Che Awang said Mr O’reilly, 50, was working for Singapore-based company First Look Marketing.

He added a property agent had tried to contact the deceased on Saturday to get the flat’s keys from him.

He said: “When he failed to reach the deceased the property agent, along with a representative from the condominium management, had gone to his unit.

“As soon as they knocked on the door a fair-skinned man walked out, informing them the deceased was unwell and to leave him alone and come back later.” When they entered the property on Monday after getting a locksmith they found the body soaked in blood lying in the master bedroom.

Mr Che Zaimani said the surveillance camera in the lobby of the condominium showed four men.

There was one Indian and three caucasians, including the dead man, entering a lift to his unit on level 12 on Friday evening. All four left the building several minutes later.

The police chief added: “Early on Saturday, a man had registered himself to go up to the deceased’s unit.

“And around noon the same day a man carrying a suitcase and believed to be the suspect left the building in

an Audi.”
