FOOTBALL manager Brendan Rodgers said burglars who raided his family home put his wife and stepdaughter through a “horrible experience”.

The thugs burst into a bedroom Charlotte was sharing with her sixyear-old daughter Lola and shone torches in their faces.

They hit a panic button and fled to hide in a bathroom of the luxury home in Glasgow as the burglars stole medals and valuables.

Rodgers, 46, from Carnlough, Co Antrim, said: “They heard voices and then they came into the bedroom.

“We have a panic button. They hid in the bathroom. They called me but I didn’t hear it and when I woke I saw the missed call. It’s been a horrible experience for them.”

Former Celtic boss Rodgers, who sparked fury when he quit to become Leicester City manager, was in England at the time of the early-morning raid on Wednesday.

He said: “It’s obviously not nice for any family to go through.

“It gave the girls a fright. They’re fine and they’re safe, which is the most important thing. It’s sad because it was very frightening for the girls when someone comes into the room where they are sleeping. You never want it to happen and when I took the call you obviously are worried about their safety.”

Rodgers admitted the raid would speed up his plans to buy a family home in the Midlands.

He said: “It won’t detract from the amazing time myself and my family have had in Scotland.

“The people were amazing. I’m not going to let this cloud any of that. The intention was to move down and this probably makes that plan a bit quicker.”

Rodgers and Charlotte, 35, a former travel organiser from Liverpool, tied the knot in 2017.
