I’LL GET TADHG BACK FOR NICKING MY KIT!

- BY ALEX BYWATER

ROB EVANS watched Tadhg Furlong steal his kit after they clashed at junior level.

Now the Wales prop plans to take off with the Six Nations title and ensure his Grand Slam ambitions aren’t caught short when Ireland arrive in Cardiff on Saturday.

Warren Gatland’s side hope to claim their first championship clean sweep since 2012 when they host Furlong’s Ireland.

Victory would net Wales £5.5million, see their players share a £1m bonus, and make Gatland the first coach in Six Nations history to win three Grand Slams.

Evans (left) – who will go head-to-head with Ireland man mountain Furlong – says his team are ready for battle.

He said: “Tadhg is a great player. I remember facing him at Under-20 level and he asked me to swap shorts. He came in and nicked half my kit! He’s a great bloke and a farmer like me but I’ll have to make sure I’m not too nice to him at the weekend. He’s a great player and he’s been outstanding in the last couple of years. I’m looking forward to having a good bash into him.”

Gatland and his coaching staff relaxed ahead of the Grand Slam showdown with a visit to the Cheltenham Festival yesterday.

The New Zealander will name his team for what will be his last Six Nations game in charge of Wales today with full-back Liam Williams expected to be fit to start.
