MILNER: I’LL FIX BROKEN RECORD

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

LIVERPOOL’S record in delivering trophies is simply not good enough for such a big club.

Who says? Midfield leader James Milner, who has revealed his frustration and disappointment at a failure to deliver the honours the team has come close to winning in recent years.

Milner (above) is a blunt-talking Yorkshireman, and he didn’t hold back as he admitted even the young team he so proudly leads has simply not been good enough in the three finals they have had since 2016.

And as they aim for two more trophies in a massively impressive season so far, he has called for the Reds to put that record straight. “You know, it’s been so long since we won a league title,” he explained.

“Even in recent years, Liverpool haven’t won as many trophies as they should do for such a big club.

“Even for us now – we are a young team, we are improving but the chances we have given ourselves? We have to put that right. We have to get over the line in one of them.”

Jurgen Klopp’s

(right) side lost last season’s Champions

League final when Real

Madrid took advantage of what seemed a cynical foul by Sergio

Ramos to put Mo Salah out of the game.

They also couldn’t get over that final hurdle in the 2016

League Cup final, or later that season in the

Europa League, when they led Sevilla at half-time, but lost three heart-breaking goals in the second half.

Milner is determined to fix that. “I have been to three finals since I have been here, lost them all and I am desperate to put that right,” he said. “It’s a memory you will never forget.”
