CRUES OWE BROTHERS HUGE DEBT

- BY CARL KENNEDY

JORDAN and Kyle Owens kept it in the family to fire 10-man Crusaders to a derby day win over Cliftonville at Seaview.

Striker Jordan headed home a Jordan Forsythe free in the third minute before sibling Kyle doubled the lead with a prodded finish from another Forsythe delivery before the break.

Victory edged the Crues, who saw Rory Hale dismissed for a second bookable offence on 71 minutes, to within five points of Ballymena in second place.

Defender Kyle, inset, said: “We have to think about that runners-up spot now because it guarantees you European football next season. “Getting into Europe is a big aim and there are seven games left so if we keep playing the way we’ve been playing, we have to believe we can catch Ballymena.” On the Owens double act in the opening period, the big centre back added: “We know the quality Jordan Forsythe has at set-pieces and we’ve been working on it in training.

“If you’re in the right place at the right time, he’ll deliver it on your head. The two balls he did put into the danger zone today were finished off and we managed to score two good goals.”

Elsewhere, a deflected Josh Daniels, right, effort eased fourth-placed GLENAVON to a 1-0 win over DUNGANNON SWIFTS.

Second bottom ARDS failed to capitalise on NEWRY CITY’S Friday night defeat to COLERAINE with a 1-0 loss to WARRENPOINT TOWN.

Seanan Foster was on target as Stephen Mcdonnell’s men edged 13 points clear of the bottom two.
