WINNING FORMULA A Good Run could Soleigh Fahey Thurles rivals

- BY EAMON DOGGETT

PEREGRINE RUN can get back on the winning track in the Borrisoleigh Hurdle at Thurles today (2.55).

Trainer Peter Fahey tends to save this horse for the spring and summer months when the ground firms up.

The nine-year-old last ran at Down Royal in November when he was beaten 12 lengths in fourth behind Snow Falcon in a Grade 2 chase.

That was a very good contest with The Storyteller in fifth and the classy Monalee just five lengths ahead of the selection.

There is nothing of that calibre in this field and the return to hurdles and step up in trip will only help his chances.

The opposition includes Willie Mullins’

who disappointed in the Coral Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival this month and Gordon Elliott’s

who would want more of a cut in the ground.

Barry Geraghty is in Thurles to ride Peregrine Run and another of Fahey’s runners and gets the confident vote.

There is also a listed race on the card and Paul Townend can continue his hot streak with in the Pierce Molony Memorial Novice Steeplechase (4.05).

Townend is the sub for regular rider Robbie Power in a field of four runners with plenty of runs between them this season.

Jetz’s most notable performance over fences came at Navan early this month when easily seeing off two of today’s opponents in and

He tried to follow up a week later in a Grade 3 at Naas only to fall at the first fence. The decision was then made to miss Cheltenham and connections should land a nice pot here.

would be a big danger if discovering his best form but was quietly fancied at Cheltenham only to be pulled up. We move then to the concluding bumper (5.50) on the card where another Peter Fahey runner

is hard to oppose.

This four-yearold was well-backed to make a winning debut at Leopardstown earlier this month but could have bumped into a smart one in Noel Meade’s Sixshooter. Soviet Pimpernel, though, was 14 lengths clear of the third horse who is in the field again today. Market support for Henry De Bromhead’s who was brought down on his debut, would be very interesting with Patrick Mullins taking the ride.

But Soviet Pimpernel looks sure to be involved in the shake up and could cap a great day for the Fahey camp.
