OLIVIER TWIST Giroud says he’ll leave unless Blues guarantee that he will get more playing time next season

OLIVIER GIROUD last night insisted he could quit Chelsea if he is not given assurances about more playing time next season.

The World Cup winner will once again lead the attack in the Europa League quarterfinal second leg against

Slavia Prague tonight, as the competition’s top scorer with nine goals.

Giroud, 32, is out of contract this summer, but

Chelsea have the option to trigger a one-year extension.

However, talks have yet to begin with the France striker, with a month of the campaign left. And Giroud said: “I’m not satisfied with being second choice. The important thing for me is to have more minutes.

“I’m a competitor, so obviously I want to play more. I don’t know what will happen. I have to meet the club. I’m happy to be here. I just want to enjoy it. I don’t want to retire. They must talk to me before the end of the season.

“With what I’ve achieved here, there is no reason they won’t give me one more year. But I need to be happy.”

Giroud, who has started only seven games in the Premier League this season, despite the struggles of Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain, added: “Trust me, I’m very frustrated when I’m not on the pitch. I just don’t want to show it.

“When you are a competitor, when you’ve been through difficulties all through your career, you need to keep that frustration inside you and transform it into positive energy on the pitch. I’m not happy to play the second role. Next year, I will need to have a more important role to play.”

Giroud also hinted he finds it hard playing under the system of Blues boss Maurizio Sarri (left). He said: “If we don’t score as many goals as the manager would like, it’s not just one player. We could be more dangerous with crosses, with running behind.

“We are doing well in this system, but I’d rather play with a second striker. I played for six years at Arsenal like that and scored goals. It’s not just the system. It’s maybe finishing with more players in the box.”
