‘PROMOTION PUSH IS FAR FROM ROVER’

- BY NEIL GOULDING

DARRAGH LENIHAN believes Blackburn should have put more than two goals past Millwall and now have all the ingredients to challenge at the top of the table.

Rovers defender Lenihan celebrated his 150th career club appearance with a battling victory over the Lions.

Goals from Derrick Williams (above) and Bradley Dack did the trick as the hosts eased to victory. And it could have been more, if not for a string of excellent saves from Bartosz Bialkowski.

Lenihan, who set-up Dack with an inch-perfect pass to make it an afternoon to saviour, said: “It was a tough match, but we knew what to expect from Millwall, because they’ve been in good form.

“We beat them 2-0 at their place last season and that was a battle. We dealt with them well.

“Luckily, we got the first goal and could have easily got more than two with the chances we created. It was great to keep a clean sheet, get three points, and make it a great weekend.

“The manager (Tony Mowbray) has been going on about how our defensive record needs to be better. As defenders, we need to know that, and we’ve been working hard on it.

“Consistency in this league is huge. We need to keep building and get on a good run so we can push up that table.”

Defender Williams put Rovers ahead in the 18th minute with an unlikely thunderbolt before Dack tapped in deep in the second half.

“Derrick says he always had a stunner in his locker, but the rest of the lads have doubted him,” added Lenihan.
