PAULINE BREMER struck twice to ensure at least one Manchester City side tasted success on the road this weekend.

The day after Pep Guardiola’s men slumped to a shock defeat at Norwich, Nick Cushing’s team made it two wins out of two matches in the WSL.

Bremer secured victory with a goal either side of half time for her second double in four days.

The Germany international grabbed two in City’s 7-1 demolition of Lugano, in Switzerland, in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-32 tie.

And after struggling with injury since joining City from Lyon two years ago, the 23-year-old believes she is now back to her best.

Bremer said: “It’s been a tough two years, but I’m out of the injury now. I’m really happy. I’m enjoying every minute I can be on the pitch and it feels even better to score.”

The win at Adams Park means City have made a perfect start to the new campaign, but Bremer insists there will be little margin for error in the title race.

She said: “It’s massively important to start strongly. We know this is a really competitive league, and we have to win every game and get all the points we can get.

“It’s really important to stay focused. We’ve had a lot of games, but I thought we were really good. We didn’t give Reading a chance at any point.

“It was hot but that was the case for both teams. I like playing in the sun – it’s better than the rain!

“We can’t afford to drop points if we want to win the league. We’ve had a great start and it’s important to keep switched on to win the next game.”

Bremer fired City ahead in the 30th minute after Caroline Weir won possession on the edge of the Reading penalty area.

She then teed up the striker to expertly curl her shot beyond keeper Grace Moloney. The second came in the 59th minute when

Bremer beat Moloney at the second attempt after the keeper saved her first effort.

Bremer came close to netting a hat-trick when her header hit the post.
