LAW MEN CHRIS SHERRARD ARE HEAD OF THE GAME

Johnny goes mental and the result is just what he wanted By

MAYBE it was the sea air but Portstewart certainly felt at home as they stunned hosts Bangor in the Premier Intermediate League on Saturday.

Johnny Law’s men remain undefeated after four games, perched a point off top spot in what’s shaping up to be a gruelling and highly-competitive division.

Bangor’s season until Saturday had been full of highs, taking the scalps of the likes of Carrick Rangers and East Belfast in cup competitions as well as winning both of their league outings.

But Portstewart proved their class, particularly in the second half, on their visit to North Down.

And for Law it was a case of mind over matter, having also led 2-0 in their last PIL run-out before being pegged back to a share of the points by Lisburn Distillery.

That was followed by defeat in the Irish Cup to Belfast Celtic despite having large passages of the play.

And, following their win in Bangor, Law revealed he’d been working on his players’ mental approach as much as corners and overlapping the full-backs.

He said: “We made a point over the past few weeks of getting into their heads in relation to those two games.

“Being 2-0 up and either through lack of concentration, maybe boys not just as fit as they should have been, and ending up drawing with Distillery and losing last week to Belfast Celtic in the last 10 minutes of the game.

“So our focus was to manage the game [against Bangor] if we got ahead and not to panic.

“We knew we could score a winner in the 90th
