and then up at Greenisland, they stole it with a last minute winner.

“Saintfield, we drew 1-1 with them up there, so again we just need to drive them on to get them over the line.

“But I have no doubt in my mind, with the quality we have in the squad we’ll be fine.”

Carson was last at the helm of Bloomfield back in 2013/14 when he guided them to a mid-table finish in 1B, with a number of managers holding the reins in the intervening years, the likes of Clinton Mccreery, Jason Elliott and Stephen Bell. But his commitment to the club never waned as he worked away in the background having been appointed president four years ago.

When Bell decided to call it a day at the end of last season, he was approached to return to the dugout and felt the timing was right with a plan in place for him to eventually hand the job on to two up-and-coming coaches at Houston Park.

“I’d seen a good lot of kids coming through so that gave me a wee bit of hunger and desire to get back, and a few of the boys who were with me before have come back as well,” explained Carson. “A couple of young lads, Michael Gray and Gary Mcfarland, who were looking after the seconds last year asked me would I take it on.

“Their whole ambition is to take the club on in about three or four years, so they are there, and another guy Jason Elliott, who played for the club and managed the club, he’s back in with me and he has that wee bit of desire back as well.

“So on the coaching side of it, there are three good lads there who are working well with the team.”
