Labour MPS back Jewish colleague who quit in latest anti-semitism row
EXPERTS have cast doubt on Jacob Rees-mogg’s boast he is saving the planet by driving vintage Bentleys.
The Commons Leader claimed: “The running of them is less than the carbon inputs to create them. So I am enormously environmentally friendly by driving old Bentleys.”
But an expert said his 3.5-litre 1936 Bentley, which does a measly 13 miles to the gallon, is likely to emit around one tonne of CO2 per year.
He also owns a 1968 T1 model. Nick LABOUR MPS rallied round a Jewish colleague who quit the party in the latest anti-semitism row to hit Jeremy Corbyn yesterday.
Dame Louise Ellman, 73, resigned with a stinging attack on the alleged failure to tackle the crisis. She told the BBC: “Under Jeremy Corbyn, the Labour Party has become an extreme and uncomfortable place with no room for dissent.”
Labour MP Ruth Smeeth said: “There’s no excuse for the anti-jewish Molden, of Emissions Analytics, said: “The issue with both Bentleys is they will not have emissions control systems and therefore the emissions may be orders of magnitude higher than newer vehicles.
“Replacing the Bentleys with a new vehicle would be better for air quality.”
Dustin Benton, policy director at the independent think-tank Green Alliance, added: “The best thing Mr Rees-mogg could do would be to convert his Bentley to an electric vehicle.” hate she has suffered. The leadership of Labour should be ashamed.”
Dame Louise has represented Liverpool Riverside since 1997 but has faced moves from pro-corbyn activists to oust her. She has yet to decide whether to seek re-election.
Labour MP Margaret Hodge said she was “absolutely devastated” and ex-deputy leader Harriet Harman described the news as “very sad”. A Labour spokesman said: “Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party are fully committed to the support of the Jewish community.”
