OZIL: I’M NOT GUNNER RUN AWAY Carjack horror and being frozen out won’t force Mesut exit

- BY JON WEST

MESUT OZIL has vowed to stay put at Arsenal despite being frozen out by Unai Emery.

The £350,000-a-week playmaker, has featured in just two games this season. But the 31-yearold former Germany star insists he won’t run away.

“I have a contract until the summer of 2021 and I will be staying until then,” he said.

“You can go through difficult times, like this, but that is no reason to run away and I’m not going to.

“It’s disappointing, of course. But as a professional footballer, I have to respect the decision of the coach.

“Watching from home makes me feel helpless.

“I want to be part of the side, I want to support my team-mates to succeed. I’m not training all the time just for the sake of it, I’m ready to play.”

Ozil’s campaign was derailed in

July by an attempted carjacking by armed robbers near his London home. His wife, Amine, and teammate, Sead Kolasinac, were also in the vehicle at the time – with Kolasinac jumping out to confront the raiders, who fled.

Speaking about the terrifying incident for the first time, Ozil said: “We were thinking maybe they wanted to take a picture.

“They obviously saw the big car and because Sead had just handed me something, they must have noticed he was wearing an expensive watch.

“They told him directly, ‘Give us your watch!’. Sead’s reaction was really, really brave.”

The incident left his wife depserate to leave the capital and he said: “She told me – and Sead’s wife told him – let’s go back to our families, to be safe, and let everything calm down.

“It was a bad couple of weeks, but never made me want to leave London permanently. Now, even for my wife, everything is OK.”

Emery said before the international break that other players “deserved” to be picked ahead of Ozil, who wasn’t even being named on the bench.

But he indicated a run of seven games in 19 days, starting with Monday’s trip to Sheffield United, would see the ex-real Madrid man brought back in from the cold.

Emery said: “I didn’t close the possibility for him to play.

“My idea is to use every player and he is one. He has very big skills and the quality we will need in the next matches.

“He is improving and training every day.”
