FOCUSING ON DEFEAT

Bielsa analysed Lions loss for days because he says that’s how you learn from it

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

MARCELO BIELSA claims he will never gloss over a defeat because he always wants to learn from it.

Bielsa has spent the international break analysing Leeds’ loss at Millwall and has picked apart what went wrong.

He was not prepared to write it off as bad luck just because Gaetano Berardi was wrongly dismissed early in the game (right) and has identified where Leeds can improve.

“We always think about a defeat because we want to ensure that we don’t repeat it,” said the Leeds head coach.

“You can react to a defeat in two ways: you can forget it and try to think about the next match, or you can analyse the reasons for it. I like the second way. I try to analyse everything.”

Bielsa has had plenty to ponder during the international break – Leeds have lost two of their last three games.

The Argentinian hopes to see a response against Birmingham at Elland Road today as Leeds attempt to get back to winning ways. “We analyse every match we play,” he said. “We analyse what we have to correct or develop and from this we plan for the next match.

“This is what we have been doing in the 15 days.”

Bielsa claims his players can also take inspiration from the legends who assembled this week to mark the club’s centenary.

The South American knows how fitting it would be to win promotion to the Premier League in their centenary season.

“I think all the messages are important and if those messages are from legends who left a mark on this club, then even more so,” he said. “To be at this club when it marks being 100 years old makes me feel very proud, I respect the history and tradition of this club.”

?? ?? NATHAN JONES has promised to stop tinkering at struggling Stoke. Jones was saved from the sack by the Potters’ 2-1 victory at Swansea before the international break.
His side are bottom ahead of Fulham’s visit today but boss Jones (left) thinks he has finally found the foundations to build from following their maiden win.
The Welshman said: “We’ve been trying to find a winning formula. This is the continuity we’ve been striving for so if we back that up with another performance and result we’ll be able to have that continuity.”
