I’M FACING HAMMERS, NOT AXE

BOSS MARCO CONFIDENT HE’S SAFE, EVEN IF EVERTON LOSE AGAIN TODAY

- BY CHRIS MCKENNA

MARCO SILVA insists he doesn’t fear the sack, even if Everton lose again today.

The under-fire Toffees boss believes he still has the backing of the club’s hierarchy despite a run of four defeats on the trot that has left the Mersey men in the bottom three. Everton have won just two Premier League games so far this season but Silva is convinced he’s safe, no matter what happens against the Hammers.

He said: “It is not something that is ever in my mind because, when I’m winning five or six games, I’m not thinking I will get a renewed contract.

“A football manager shouldn’t waste a second thinking about it.”

Silva did concede that today’s game is a must-win but only because he sees every match as a must-win. When I use those words, it is first because all the matches must be must-win matches. That is the mentality we are trying to create,” he said. “And I use them also because it has to be a turning point for us.

“At the moment our confidence is not high but we have to go for this match thinking it will be a mustwin game.”

Everton appointed Silva in the summer of 2018 and believed the ex-watford boss could turn them into European contenders. But despite a £200million outlay over three transfer windows, they look as far from Europe as ever.

Former Hull boss Silva does not believe Everton’s majority investor Farhad Moshiri (above) has lost faith in him.

“The owner knows what has happened in the last two months,” he said. “We don’t just look at the results, even if they are the main thing. I never have any doubts about the confidence shown in me.”
