Plea after her ex found guilty of murder

-

SARAH Wellgreen’s loved ones say it is time the man who killed her finally admitted what he did with the mum-of-five’s body.

The appeal came after her ex-boyfriend Ben Lacomba, 39, was yesterday found guilty of her murder.

Jurors were told “angry, bitter and controlling” Lacomba hatched the plot after finding out 46-year-old Sarah did not want to rekindle their relationship.

Taxi driver Lacomba, who has three young children with Sarah, is thought to have disposed of her body using a 5ft 5in “gravedigger’s shovel”.

Sarah’s fiance Neil James said after the verdict: “We knew he was guilty... Let’s hope he now says where Sarah’s body is.”

Volunteers have joined the hunt for her remains and have vowed to continue. Mr James said: “Those guys are still searching and will be out there this weekend.” Jack Burdett, 22, Sarah’s son from a previous relationship before meeting Lacomba in 2004, said: “The family are pleased and happy with the result today. Justice has been served.”

It is not known how Lacomba killed the beautician, last seen arriving home from work on October 9 last year.

No forensic evidence was found in the house in New Ash Green, Kent, or in Lacomba’s Vauxhall Zafira taxi, which he is thought to have used to drive the body away from the scene.

Kent Police said their search, already one of the largest in their history, will go on. Lacomba and Sarah had split up at the time she vanished but were still living under the same roof.

The court was told she had secured a new job and a mortgage to buy him out of the property. Prosecutor Alison

Morgan QC told the court it “appears that potential loss of that family home... and his children motivated his actions”.

Jurors took just three and a half hours to return a unanimous guilty verdict.

They were told he had switched off the home’s security cameras and parked in an unusual spot to evade detection. Lacomba claimed he was asleep all night, but CCTV cameras nearby picked up his taxi driving along country lanes in the early hours.

He did not report Sarah missing for over 24 hours.

When police asked to look at data from his two phones to help find Sarah, he threw the mobiles in the Thames. The
