Shocked Ralph: Time for talking is over, now we have to hit back

apologise for the Leicester debacle. But it could get worse before it gets better for the south-coast side, who travel to champions City twice in five days, in the Carabao Cup and Premier League.

Hasenhuttl said: “For everybody, it was a very disappointing evening. It is crazy to say this now, but we invested a lot in training during the week, the atmosphere was good and we had a good feeling for this game.

“I have never had an experience like this in my entire career. It was a surprise for me.”

The Foxes’ win at St Mary’s was the biggest by an away side in the history of the English top flight.

But like his boss, Saints captain Pierre-emile Hojbjerg says it is now time to let their football do the talking.

Hasenhuttl’s men have won only two of their first 10 Premier League games and are facing a relegation battle for the third season in a row.

Denmark midfielder Hojbjerg, given the armband by Hasenhuttl, said: “Friday was more than unacceptable, it was embarrassing.

“I have to take responsibility. I have to show my face. I have to stand in front of the group and I have to show my way.

“There’s a saying – ‘Tough times make tough people’ – I can try and say something, but it won’t change anything. I don’t want to speak. I want to show by action.

“We never want to be in this position again or anywhere near it. We have to get back up and make sure this never happens again.”

Hasenhuttl plans wholesale changes, with calamity goalkeeper Angus Gunn and defender Jannik Vestergaard being among those set for the chop.

Saints have also stepped up their chase for a director of football to assist Hasenhuttl, after Ross Wilson quit to join Rangers earlier this month.
