ERIK READY TO HAMMER IRISH

- MICHAEL SCULLY

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN insists his lack of game time and form at confidence-hit Tottenham won’t impact on him against Ireland.

Spurs are languishing in 14th place in the Premier League having secured just three victories this season to date, and Eriksen, who has been linked with a move to

Spain, has started in only two

of the 11

fixtures. However the man who Age Hareide will look to in Dublin to provide the creativity and inspiration to break Ireland down again believes he can brush aside his disappointment at club level to help secure Euro 2020 qualification on Monday.

“At least I’m healthier than

I usually am,” he remarked.

“If that’s an advantage, we’ll only find out when the match is played. “But I still have enough confidence in the bank to be able to play some nice football. It’s not something that hinders me. “As a football player you want to play, but the national team is different from playing on the club team.”

Eriksen has not looked his assured self when he has played - he only made 55 per cent of his passes in the recent away defeat to Liverpool, and gave away possession 16 times against Everton the following week.

He did score off the bench in the Champions League defeat of Red Star Belgrade last week.

“The way I play means that more risks are taken than in other positions, and of course more mistakes are also made,” Eriksen said.

“But the right decisions must also be made, and there may have been just a little missing.

“I’ve been in the right situations, but not made the right decisions, so it’s also been about missing the last sharpness.

“It’s something you have to work on yourself.”

The 27-year-old playmaker added: “I’ve played a little less this year, but there are many players who have played less this year.

“And we still have confidence in each other.”

Asked if his limited game time was linked to him not signing a new deal at White Hart Lane, Eriksen said: “You have to ask the club.”
