Celts skipper stunned Hoops picked up Frimpong for just £350K and says Dutch kid will make Parkhead men a fortune

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

SCOTT BROWN last night backed Jeremie Frimpong to follow in the footsteps of Celtic’s £25million man Kieran Tierney.

The Parkhead skipper lavished praise onto the Dutch kid after his spectacular start to life with the champions.

Frimpong has made a magnificent start to his Celtic career with a string of Man of the Match displays since signing for £350,000 from Manchester City four months ago – and his ‘Oh my days’ interview after the Betfred Cup final made him an internet sensation.

And Brown believes his instant impact at the age of 19 is similar to Tierney’s teenage explosion onto the top-team scene.

Celtic sold Tierney for a clubrecord fee to Arsenal after four sensational full years of first-team service and the Hoops captain reckons Frimpong is cut from the same cloth as the Scotland star.

Brown explained: “I don’t think there’s been anyone apart from him and Kieran who’ve broken into the team at that age and done that well in such a short amount of time.

“He [Frimpong] will be worth serious money in a few years. The main aim for us is to keep improving him.

“Kieran is the template for everyone that’s come through. His attitude and love for the club as well.

“Jeremie has that energy and that smile. He is just a great guy. There isn’t a single person who has a bad word to say about him.

“He’s got that energy he brings out and that laughter. There’s no catch with him.

He’s just very, very good and is only going to get better. Every game he’s played he’s been

Man of the Match.

“You look around the park and just think he’s going to get MOM no matter what.

“He is [incredible value for money]. There’s no other way you can put it.”

As well as his stunning ability, Tierney’s humble attitude and willingness to work like a trojan each day in training and in games singled him out. Brown says Frimpong possesses identical traits and added: “I’ve seen young kids come up here being big-time charlies and swaggering around thinking they should be playing at the club when they don’t do the hard work.

“You can see right away the wee man is genuine. He’s a lovely, lovely man and so is wee Robbo [Scott Robertson]. If you look at those two boys coming through, they are very humble.

“These two boys are willing to do the hard work, they are grafting and working in the gym or on the field and putting the yards in.

“That’s what you have to do to become a topquality player.

“We thought a wee laddie coming in from Man City could have a bigtime attitude, but he takes everything in his stride. His interview after the cup final? It’s those small little things that show he’s very humble and the lads appreciate that more than anything. He won’t change.”
