WE’RE COMING FOUR YOU

Kane wants a victory over Chelsea on Sunday so Spurs can leapfrog their rivals into Champions League places

HARRY KANE says Tottenham are ready to elbow Chelsea out of the top four this weekend.

Jose Mourinho pits his wits against his old club when the two sides meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Spurs are on a roll, having won four of their five Premier League games since Mourinho took charge, and now sit just three points behind their London rivals in fifth spot.

In contrast, Chelsea go into the game having lost four of their last five in the league.

“Next weekend is the big one,” said England captain Kane. “If we can win that and push into the top four, then we have fixtures over the Christmas period we feel we can definitely win.

“We’re in a good spot – just one loss in five in the Premier League – but we’ve got to try to win next weekend and push into the top four.”

Kane believes their 2-1 victory against Wolves last Sunday has set up things nicely for this weekend’s game.

“Even before Chelsea’s result on Saturday, we said it’s two important games,” he said.

“Wolves were one point ahead of us. These two games were very important for momentum, going into that Christmas period. We knew how much it meant. With Chelsea losing, it meant more.

“It’s an important three points against Wolves, especially with the other results going our way.”

Kane (below, with Mourinho) feels it is too early to assess the impact the new manager has made since taking over from sacked boss Mauricio

Pochettino. “It’s hard to say,” he said. “These sorts of results we weren’t picking up earlier in the season. Whenever a new manager comes in, everyone’s ready, wants to work and wants to impress. “I got on very well with Poch and I respect him very, very much. “But Mourinho has his own style and way of doing things. For me, it is about learning that way.

“My top-level career has only been with one manager, so it’s good to experience new things and see how different managers work. Mourinho’s one of the highest-level managers in our sport, so I can only learn from him.

“But it’s important – over this month and in January – that we carry it on.

“We’ve scored goals in pretty much every game with the new manager, so, if we can get it right and grind out results, like at Wolves, throughout the season, then we’ll be OK.”
