CHARITY CARDS ‘MADE BY PRISON SLAVES IN CHINA’

Tesco dumps supplier after outrage

A LITTLE girl found a note in a box of Tesco Christmas cards saying they were made by prison labour.

Florence Widdicombe, six, was writing cards to school friends when she discovered the message from China last weekend.

It read: “We are foreign prisoners in

Shanghai Qingpu prison China. Forced to work against our will. Please help us and notify human rights organisati­on.”

The note named Peter Humphrey, a British journalist who was held in the same prison after trying to investigat­e corporate bribery in 2013.

Florence said of the find: “It was a bit funny and I felt a bit shocked.”

A WOMAN was killed in a crash yesterday involving a rental car and a National Express coach which then both burst into flames.

A rear-seat passenger in the Zipcar Volkswagen Polo died at the scene at 4.30am and three others were injured.

Video footage shows both vehicles on fire on Queenstown Road close to Chelsea Bridge, in South West London.

Witnesses can be heard saying that both the vehicles “exploded” after they was a “prank” but then “realised it was actually serious”. He contacted Mr Humphrey, who notified the media.

Tesco said it was “shocked” and had halted production of the charity cards from supplier Zheijiang Yunguang Printing, pending an investigat­ion. had crashed into each other. Police and ambulance crews can be seen trying to dampen the flames and rescue people from inside.

The female driver of the Polo was taken to hospital in a critical condition, the Metropolit­an Police said.

Two others suffered minor injuries. A spokesman for National Express said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the occupant of the car, who sadly passed away.”
