CHRISTMAS

Cracker of a festive period for Law as his Portstewart face final as league leaders

-

Mark Edgar, who has been in sparkling goals form of late, told Match on

Tuesday: “It would be fantastic for us to win the cup final.

“This is my first season with

Portstewart and I think a victory like that would push us on and give us even more confidence going into the New

Year to kick on in the league.

“It is going to be a difficult game, though. We played Moyola in the league a few weeks ago and came out 2-1 winners that day.

“But anything can happen in a cup final.

“We’re just really looking forward to it and hopefully we’ll get a good crowd down to support the team and give them a good day out.” Edgar, who joined the club after spells with Carrick Rangers and Coleraine, took his tally to 10 for the season with a brace in Saturday’s high-octane league encounter away to Limavady United.

Goals from Brown and Mccarron had the hosts two goals to the good with barely 15 minutes played.

However, Edgar pulled one back and John Watt’s strike ensured parity at the interval.

Edgar then got Portstewart in front for the first time on the hour mark only for Hugh Carlin to level things up again within three minutes.

Forgrave made it 4-3 to the visitors with 20 minutes to go and that looked to have won the three points

– only for Mccarron to have the final say with the equaliser in the 90th minute.

Edgar, who was once on the books of Blackburn Rovers, added: “As a team we started the game poorly by giving away two goals in the first 15 minutes.

“But after that spell I thought we showed good character by staying positive and getting back into the game and especially equalising right on half-time.

“We just like to take each game as it comes but going top of the league gives us all a boost going into a cup final.

“We can take the positives out of the game and the key is not thinking too far ahead and to focus on our next match.

“On a personal level, I’ve scored 10 this season and been quite happy with my form.

“I just try to give 100% every week for the team.”
