Buskers Mac online hit with Fleetwood tune

Dea Matrona thrilled at 400k views

BELFAST rock three-piece Dea Matrona have gone viral with their impressive cover of Fleetwood Mac hit Go Your Own Way.

Performing at the front of Victoria Square in the days leading up to Christmas, the band captivated shoppers with their version.

A clip of their performanc­e was recorded by Twitter user Barbara Whearty and has since gone on to amass more than 400,000 views.

Among the prominent names who have praised the band’s cover are Belfast boxers Carl Frampton and Michael Conlan, English broadcaste­r Jeremy Vine and actor Charlie Lawson.

Speaking to the Mirror about the reaction to the video, Dea Matrona singer Mollie Mcginn said: “It’s been really amazing and so exciting. Me and the other girls are so happy to see the response.

“We hadn’t busked there since last Christmas, it’s become a Christmas tradition for us these days.

“We had noticed Barbara posting the video initially and we were so happy that she did. Then straight away we just saw the views going up and up.” The band were also grateful to see the video get a positive response from legendary Irish singer Imelda May, who they count as

one of their icons. Mollie added: “To see people like her sharing the video left us absolutely gobsmacked.

“We’d been to see her in the Waterfront Hall two years ago and we love her music, so we really appreciate­d her sharing it. It’s just so lovely that our music is reaching new audiences.

“Since it went viral we’ve sold out our headline gig at the Black Box in January.

“We never thought we’d have done that. Now we’re hoping to put on another Belfast gig soon. We want to release new music and play a lot of shows in 2020.”
