IT’S UP IN THE AAR
Goal hero Mooy unsure of his future at Seagulls
AARON MOOY admits he is in the dark over his future after his stunning solo goal helped ease Brighton’s relegation fears.
The midfielder is fast becoming one of the Premier League’s hottest properties ahead of the transfer window with a string of superb displays.
The Australian, on loan from Huddersfield for the rest of the season, said: “I don’t have control over these things.
“I’m enjoying
Brighton for sure. I feel like I’m improving and settling into the team.
We play good football and I enjoy the way we play.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen but I’m definitely enjoying Brighton.” Mooy played a key role in the defeat of free-falling Bournemouth, with his fine run and powerful finish adding to £17million club record buy Alireza Jahanbakhsh’s first goal for Albion.
Since Mooy’s move to the Amex, the Cowley brothers have taken charge at Huddersfield but that has not made his position any clearer. “I haven’t spoken to them,” he revealed. “I think the way we play suits me more than the way we did at Huddersfield because we like to play through the lines and that’s how I like to play.”
Albion boss Graham Potter indicated no agreement has been reached with The Terriers and admitted he does not know what will happened either.
“We’ve known all along he’s on loan for the season,” he said.
“With all these relationships, it has to work for the club that he belongs to, it has to work for us and it has to work for the player.
“That’s always been my focus. Of course, the clubs have to agree and things like that.”
Potter had previously hinted Iran international Jahanbakhsh (left) might move next month to seek more playing time.
But against the Cherries he started in the Premier League for the first time this season and finally broke his duck with the opening goal, which brought him to tears. Jahanbakhsh, who had gone 27 games without scoring, said: “It’s been a long time that I was waiting for my chance and it took a bit longer than I would have expected.
“But I’m very happy I took my chance. Couldn’t be any better.
“It’s been very tough times for me, the last couple of weeks, and my family have found it very difficult because such a thing never happened in my career.
“Last season wasn’t the best season for me. I missed a lot of games – almost half with the Asia Cup and injuries – but I don’t want to make an excuse.”
