LAURA’S NOW MUM ‘N’ GLAD

- BY MIKE WALTERS

LAURA KENNY will go for an incredible hat-trick of Olympic titles at the Tokyo Games – tapping into a Facebook support group for sporting mums.

Britain’s greatest female Olympian, who already has four gold medals, intends to compete in the team pursuit, multi-task omnium and Madison in Japan this summer.

And to help her cope – while also looking after two-year-old son Albie – Kenny (above) has joined the Mothers in Elite Sport network, set up by Team GB’S athletes’ commission, to help juggle the demands of training, competing and parenthood.

Kenny, whose husband Jason has six Olympic titles, is part of the British Cycling squad heading for a World Cup meeting in Canada this week. The event will provide telling clues about her readiness for a triple assault on the podium in Tokyo.

And the private Facebook group for British athletes wrestling with childcare and elite competition will offer her valuable support.

Kenny, still only 27, said: “Since Albie was born, I have had to find a different balance to my life. I used to get stressed out so much before racing but now I’m a mother who happens to ride a bike for a living – in that order.

“These Games have come round a lot quicker than Rio or London, but that’s mainly because I took a year out to have a baby – and since I’ve returned to competition, I’m not thinking about cycling 24/7 like I used to.

“When I go home after training or a race, I’m a mum, not an athlete. It stops me over-thinking.”

Laura Kenny will appear in Purplebricks’ new TV ads which take a humorous look at its role as official estate agent of Team GB. Visit @Purplebricksuk on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube.
