CHRIS SHERRARD SHOOTING TON CAN LAY DOWN MARKER STAR DOC
Clyde is full of praise for his goalscorer as Roesiders knock out cup holders By
a match. We’ve done well in all of them and, being honest, that has probably affected our league form so it’s something we might have to think differently about next season.
“But the Intermediate Cup is now our only chance of silverware so it has become a high priority.
“Our under-20s are doing well and a lot of those lads are pressing for places in the first team.
“So we’ll continue to try and get a balance there and use it to allow the younger lads to show why they should be in the team.
“Having come this far in the competition we want to keep the run going as far as we possibly can so we’ll be taking it seriously.
“It was always going to take a bit of time for us to see the improvements we wanted to see at the club.
“But there have been plenty of positive signs and every week we’re seeing more and more of them so it shows we’re moving in the right direction.”
Also through are Limavady’s neighbours Moyola Park who won away at Coleraine Reserves.
A Chris Dowie strike was all that separated the sides after the first 45 minutes at the university. Two minwithout utes after the restart the Bannsiders got back on level terms.
Rafferty put the visitors back in front and Taggart made it 3-1 to leave Coleraine with too much to do.
They did pull one back but it was Mervyn Pattison’s side who progressed to round four.
Newington found life hard going away at Ballywalter Rec but they did enough for a 2-0 win.
An own goal and a header from Padraig Scollay sent the north Belfast side through.
No such joy for Bangor, however, who were beaten 1-0 at home by
Immaculata. In a game which went to extra-time in North Down, Mcvicker produced heroics to strike the only goal of the game.
Dollingstown’s home tie with Annagh United also went into extratime but it didn’t stop there.
Scott Mccordick’s goal looked to be sending Annagh through only for Stephen Acheson to net with five minutes to go.
And with no further goals in extratime it set up a penalty shoot-out which Dollingstown won.
