was sent by his mother in 1939 at the age of seven, unable to speak English.

Later in the war he joined relatives in the US and afterwards he moved to Israel, where he became an engineer.

He said he had spoken many times in Germany about the Holocaust: “I tell the kids, ‘You are not to blame for what your grandfathers did. I am here to tell you it happened, and to convince you not to let it start again.”

In a keynote speech, Charles gave a stark warning that the lessons of the Holocaust still remain “searingly relevant to this day”.

ISRAEL’S prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed Iran as “the most anti-semitic regime on the planet” at yesterday’s World Holocaust Forum.

He vowed Israel would always defend itself against those out to destroy it.

And the Israeli prime minister said Iran is the one country “that denies the

Holocaust as a matter of state policy and threatens to wipe

Israel off the map”.

Netanyahu also praised

America for “confronting the tyrants of Tehran that threaten the peace of everybody in the world”.

Trump’s deputy Mike Pence urged world leaders to “stand strong” against Iran – a country he said was the “leading state purveyor of anti-semitism”.

But French president Emmanuel Macron insisted “no one has the right to invoke [those killed by the Nazis] to justify division or contemporary hatred”.

POLISH president Andrzej Duda snubbed the World Holocaust Forum as he wasn’t invited to speak – unlike the US, Russia, Britain, France and Germany.

Prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki said: “This is disrespect to Poland and to all the heroes who were saving Jews. He should have been given the floor.”

A fifth of Poland’s population were killed in the war and it was where the Nazis built Auschwitz.
