PELE’S PLEA FOR MATT TO JOIN ROYALS

- BY TIM NASH

READING boast great footballing names in Moore, Pele and Puscas.

Now Pele wants the Royals to roll out the welcome Matt to their on-loan Chelsea action man.

Judilson Gomes, nicknamed ‘Pele’ since beating allcomers in the school playground, grabbed Reading’s third goal to blitz Birmingham’s 10-match unbeaten Championship run.

But the on-loan Monaco anchorman (above) wants Reading to secure Chelsea loanee Matt Miazga for keeps.

USA centre-back Miazga made up for letting in Scott Hogan for Birmingham’s opener by launching Reading’s comeback with a stunning volley. It was an effort lone striker George Puscas and their defender Liam Moore would have been proud of.

Yakou Meite headed the Royals in front then Pele’s breakaway sealed Reading’s joint-second biggest away win of the season.

Reading fans chanted for Miazga to stay next season – and Pele said: “Miazga is a great player and I hope he stays.

“He’s a popular lad and he does everything on the pitch.”

Pele’s own future will also be decided in the summer and he said: “I like the people I work with so I’m very happy to be here.”

Birmingham conceded three times after the break to suggest 10 games in 36 days have taken their toll. Their shattered players will follow teen wonderkid Jude Bellingham by getting a time-out to prepare for Saturday’s derby at West Brom.

Head coach Pep Clotet said: “It’s important to rest, regroup and fight again. They will have an extra day off this week.”
