Conman faked vasectomy and then got me pregnant

‘Arrogant and cruel’ £100k scammer jailed for 6 years

- BY JEREMY ARMSTRONG

A FRAUDSTER made his girlfriend pregnant by lying about a vasectomy, then dumped her and the baby after conning her out of £57,000.

Victim Coleen Greenwood nearly died giving birth to their son and was taken in by already-wed Greg Wilson, who reneged on two promises to marry her.

A judge yesterday jailed the conman for six years, telling him he showed “jawdropping arrogance and cruelty”.

Wilson, 39, adopted the fake identity of a “hero” fireman after meeting Coleen, 46, on a dating site in 2014.

He claimed to have saved a child’s life and showed her a thank you letter to “prove” he broke his back jumping from a window, a court heard.

During an elaborate twoand-a-half-year scam, he twice got Coleen pregnant.

She terminated the first but found she was expecting again after he faked a vasectomy. He convinced her she could not fall pregnant again by showing her bogus medical records saying “zero sperm count” – and even wore bandages around his penis.

Wilson gave his fake fireman’s name, James Scott, on the birth certificate of son Charlie – born in 2016 after an emergency caesarean.

Among his other lies was a claim to be divorced from the mother of his two children, saying they were all now in Texas. In fact Wilson, of Thornaby on Teesside, had a wife and three sons living just 20 miles away.

His two marriage proposals to Coleen also came to nothing amid a series of excuses. He missed their first wedding after falsely telling her he had cancer. In a £100,000 series of scams that also targeted charities, he persuaded Coleen and her sister Karen Crear to give up their jobs and buy a Newcastle wine bar. But after the second wedding was cancelled Karen grew suspicious – and discovered that Wilson had not booked the venue. Coleen confronted him on what was to have been their wedding day. He handed their baby out of the window of a car, bought fraudulently with £10,000 of Coleen’s savings – and drove out of their lives. Coleen watched as he was sentenced by Newcastle crown court after admitting eight counts of fraud and other offences. Judge James Adkin told him he had shown “a jawdropping arrogance and cruelty in so persistently and wickedly deceiving your victims, particularly Coleen Greenwood”. Coleen said: “I’ll have to explain to my son the horrendous truth about his father’s deception.”
