MANE A TEAR HAS TO FALL

Sadio will be gutted if Reds don’t take title, but says:‘it’s been tougher for so many millions around the world. We’ll win it next year’

SADIO MANE will “accept” Liverpool not winning the Premier League – if the season cannot be finished.

But he insists the Reds would make up for such a bitter disappointment by winning it next year.

Mane, 27, says he does not feel like a champion yet, despite his team having a 25-point lead at the top of the table before the campaign was halted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Senegal star said: “I love my job and I love football, I want to win on the pitch.

“I want to win the games and I want the Premier League trophy – it’s what I would love.

“But with this situation, whatever happens, I will understand.

“It has been difficult for Liverpool, but it has been much tougher for many millions of people around the world.

“Some people have lost family members and that is the more complicated situation.

“For myself, it’s my dream to win the title this year. But, if that’s not the case, I will accept that it’s part of life. Hopefully, we will win it next year.”

Mane lifted the Champions League last season with Kop boss Jurgen Klopp’s side.

But they are desperate to win their first league title in 30 years.

And Liverpool need only six more points to secure it, with nearest challengers

Manchester City well out of sight.

“Hopefully, we can still win it,” added striker Mane.

“I always said I wanted to win the Champions League and the Premier League.

“We are in a good way in the Premier League – hopefully, everything will return to normal.”

Mane has no doubt that skipper Jordan Henderson (right) has been the best player in the Premier League this season, but he has his own sights set on being crowned a Ballon d’or winner in the future. While Liverpool are certain to be crowned champions if the season is finished, who should win the PFA Player of the Year award is open to debate. Virgil van Dijk and Mane are contenders, given their fine form for

Klopp’s side. But Henderson is currently the bookmakers’ favourite – and Mane’s too.

“I would go for Henderson,” he said. “He’s been a big part of our success, he has been incredible, both defensively and in attack.

“He’s been a really good leader and a great captain.”
