OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER says Manchester United are ready to exploit the transfer market when the coronavirus pandemic is over. Football’s enforced break has hit clubs hard financially, with many likely to have to offload players when the transfer window opens. United’s status as the richest club in the world means they are better able to absorb the financial hit brought on by the suspension of games.

The Red Devils plan to buy big this summer, with home-grown trio Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and James Maddison (all left) among their targets. United

are ready

to spend up to £200million, but many of the players they want are likely to be available for less than their true market value, because of the financial impact of Covid-19.

With the transfer market likely to look vastly different post-pandemic, with fees lower as a result, Solskjaer admitted United could be in the best position to land Sancho (above) and all their other targets.

“Who knows how the market is going to react to this? Who knows which clubs need to sell players?” said the Old Trafford manager.

“There might be just a situation there where you can exploit and I know that we at United, we’re one of the biggest – and the biggest financially well-off.

“I’m sure we are capable, when we get back to normality, that we can do the business that we want to.

“We want to be the best at everything and of course now is a chance to spend more time, you discuss players, discuss plans.

“We’ve evaluated what we need of course with the coaching staff.

“We’ve looked at games, evaluated games and had discussions on video calls.

“We’re planning, we’re discussing what we have to do, what we can do and I have to say the club has been very good so far.

“Football is going to get back to normality at one point and it’s very important we’re ready when that happens.”
