NEARLY three million people have been evacuated in India and Bangladesh as Cyclone Amphan batters parts of Asia.

At least five people, including a child in India, have died as the violent storm destroyed homes and other buildings.

The coronavirus pandemic is hindering relief efforts, with shelters struggling with socialdistancing measures.

The wind and rain have now weakened, but it is still classified as a very severe cyclone.

Officials in Bangladesh fear it will be the most powerful storm since Cyclone Sidr, which killed 3,500 people in 2007.

It comes as thousands of migrant workers in India flee the cities for their villages to try to stop the spread of Covid-19. the victims have raised money in their memory for the Wales Air Ambulance.

Ralph’s brother Richard said he had lost his “best friend” and “wonderful nephew”. He described the loss as “surreal and insurmountable”.

The buffalo has now been put down. The Gwent coroner will hold an inquest into the victims’ deaths.
