Wenger: My joy at Kop blowing unbeaten run

WENGER SAYS HE WOULD NOT RETURN, EVEN AS A SUPPORTER

ARSENE WENGER has taunted Liverpool by admitting he enjoyed their failure to match his Invincibles season.

The former Arsenal boss (above) famously guided the Gunners to an unbeaten season in 2004, winning the Premier League by 11 points.

But Liverpool’s chances of emulating them went up in smoke when they suffered a shock defeat at Watford in February (top), before the season was suspended. Asked if he

ARSENE WENGER says he will never go back to the Emirates to watch his beloved Arsenal.

The Frenchman is now FIFA’S head of global development after leaving the Gunners in 2018 after 22 trophy-filled years in charge.

But despite the time he spent in north London, Wenger has ruled out returning to the home of the Gunners – even to watch as a fan.

The 70-year-old, who won the Premier League title three times with Arsenal, as well as seven FA Cups, said: “Would I return to the Emirates Stadium? I always said to myself that I would be leaving

Arsenal completely. That is the decision I made.”

The Gunners are, however, preparing to erect a statue of their legendary manager outside the Emirates.

Wenger said: “I managed the club for 1,235 games and I’ve had good and bad times there, but we always tried to defend the club’s values. And I think we managed to do it.”

Wenger has though admitted he still watches all of Arsenal’s matches on TV, and says he still cares about the club’s future and wants them to be respected.

He said earlier this month: “I worry a lot about the club still, and I watch all of the games.

“There is a culture in the way to play football at Arsenal that I want to be respected. I hope Mikel Arteta can get that back.”

Asked whether he was thinking of a return to management, Wenger said: “At the moment I am dedicating myself to my work at FIFA.

“FIFA has responsibility for 211 federations and the big problem is being efficient. I’m not saying I’m not missing competition, but I’m trying to be efficient in this area.”
