RASHFORD BOY WONDER TO SUPER MAN Shaw insists striker Marcus has developed on and off the pitch and tips him as a future Ballon d’or winner

MARCUS RASHFORD is the boy who has become the man for Manchester United.

Rashford answered United’s call when they needed a new goalscorin­g hero to replace Romelu Lukaku, now at Inter Milan.

The one-time Boy Wonder donned his cape and tights and has been United’s Avenger in front of goal.

Reds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who knows a thing or two about goalscorer­s, always believed Rashford could step up. And he has delivered, with his best tally of 19 goals this term.

He has 14 in 22 Premier League games and his haul would be even greater if he had not been sidelined by a double stress fracture of his back in mid-january. Then came the break due to the pandemic, and Rashford has been one of the few people to benefit from football’s shutdown, because it has given him time to get fit for the season’s finale.

Luke Shaw claims the striker’s team-mates regard him as a senior player, even though he is only 22.

Shaw has followed Rashford’s career since he burst on to the first-team stage in February 2016, with two goals on his debut in the Europa League.

He has watched him mature as a

person and a player and was hugely impressed by his feat in raising £20million for the charity Fareshare during the lockdown.

Shaw claims he will only get better and even tipped the young striker as a future Ballon d’or winner.

“Yeah, for sure,” said the United defender. “He’s improved greatly from when he first came on the scene, not just on the pitch, but off the pitch as well.

“He’s matured so much. He’s really turned into a man and I think everyone’s seen the way he’s conducted himself off the pitch, especially during this pandemic – he’s been unbelievab­le.
