TAYTO Park is to get two new intertwining rollercoasters after spending £1.3million addressing noise concerns.

The popular theme park and zoo announced yesterday it will begin construction on the £13million rides next year.

Open to the public in 2023, they will bring 40 new jobs to the area.

When completed, the suspended rollercoaster will be 748m in length and will reach a height of 31m.

Up to 1,000 people an hour will be able to ride on it at a speed of 85kph.

The second Boomerang coaster will measure 221m in length and stand at a height of 24.2m.

It will carry up to 720 people every hour at speeds of 65kph when going forwards and 60kph going backwards.

The venue’s founder Raymond Coyle said: “Today is a very exciting day for Tayto Park and Co Meath.

“This is the largest single investment in our history.

“Not only will the new coasters add employment to the local economy, they are securing the future of the park.”

The complex, just outside Ashbourne, employs 420 people and announced earlier this week it will reopen on

Monday. Planning permission for the new coasters had been rejected twice – in July 2019 and in January – after local residents raised concerns about the disruption created by screaming punters.

The park subsequently spent more than £1.3million on noise reduction methods.

In order to address concerns, designers reorientated the tracks to direct noise back into the arena and away from housing in the area.

Other features include the construction of underground sections, extensive planting of trees, shrubbery and foliage and a 6m-high and 100m-long sound barrier.

The coasters and their structures have also had upgrades to improve the situation.

These include polyurethane wheels to reduce vibration and noise and magnetic brakes to ensure a smooth and silent stop.

In addition, there will be a magnetic chain system in place to eliminate all sound from the suspended coaster going up the lift hill.

A statement from Tayto Park said the nearest residential house will be 460m away from the closest point of the new rollercoasters.
