DETTORI: THIRD ARC WIN STILL ON FOR ENABLE

- BY CHRIS GOULDING

FRANKIE DETTORI expects Enable to bounce back after her defeat in Sunday’s Coral-eclipse and take top honours this season.

John Gosden, responsible for guiding Enable throughout her star-studded career, made no secret of the fact the six-year-old would be better for the run in Sunday’s headliner.

This view was also backed up by Dettori, who said: “I didn’t want to be too aggressive on Enable after a nine-month lay-off.

“I kind of looked after her for the first bit of the race – next time, if I take him (Ghaiyyath the winner) on, I’ll be a bit closer and make a race of it.

“The King George and the Arc have always been her targets, so I didn’t want to bottom her first time out against a very fit, good horse.”

Minutes after the mare’s defeat Love, impressive winner of Saturday’s Oaks, was made the 4-1 favourite for the Arc over Enable, who is now a 5-1 chance.

In recent days Dettori had not enjoyed the roll of the dice. English King failed to come up to expectations in the Derby, finishing fifth, and Frankly Darling was never a serious player in the Oaks when taking third place.

“In the Derby I had a terrible draw and was always on the back foot, because he jumped left,” said Dettori.

“I probably could have finished second if I’d got a better run. But we should take nothing away from the winner Serpentine as he was the best horse.”

Dettori was also full of praise for Love.

“I thought it was an amazing performance,” he said. “With all the allowances she’ll be a horse to be reckoned with.”

DAVID O’MEARA

(left) achieved a notable landmark in his training career when Sudona became his 1,000th Flat winner at Pontefract yesterday.

O’meara, a run of the mill jump jockey who is based Yorkshire, saddled his first winner in June 2010.

PINATUBO, beaten in the 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes, is the 10-11 favourite for Sunday’s Prix Jean Prat at Deauville.

DUAL Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Al Boum Photo, trained by Willie Mullins, and Cyrname, under the care of Paul Nicholls, were the jointhighest-rated jumps horses of the 2019-20 season by Anglo-irish Jump Classifications.
