Hotdogs tough to swallow

- BY RHIAN LUBIN

THE scientists agree: the most hotdogs anyone can eat in ten minutes is 84.

Never one to pass up a challenge, I decide to see if could do just that.

Like the pros, I fast all day, until my stomach is growling with hunger as I prepare to tuck in. But the meat mountain before me, see left, is none too appetising.

Maybe the hotdogs competitive eaters scoff are gourmet, or they get off on the crowd’s cheers, but I can’t fathom why anyone would put themselves through this.

Kyle advises me to eat the sausage first, followed by the bun, so I do this on dog number one.

Using the same technique, I’m on to the second, but it’s the bread that makes this difficult.

Time for a little break, four minutes have gone before I’m on to the third. Already I am stuffed.

At six minutes, I manage half a bite before resting for another 90 seconds.

Can I finish the third one by the eighth minute? No.

Minute nine passes and I swallow the remaining half.

That’s it – I’m done – a pathetic three hotdogs in 10 minutes.

Challenge officially failed.
